Grant Eligibility Requirements:

PM USA does not accept unsolicited requesting for funding. Applications are by invitation only.

  • Organizations requesting funding must be non-profit, charitable organizations tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
  • Organizations must not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, age, sex, disability, national origin, sexual orientation, marital status, citizenship status, protected veteran status or status in any group protected by state or local law.
  • Organizations must acknowledge and confirm the company’s support in written or other communications that typically recognize donors (e.g., annual reports, newsletters and Websites).  (See “Grant Attribution and Certification Guidelines.”)
  • Organizations must be able to provide recent audited financials confirming that they conform to generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Organizations must agree not to employ or deal with any entities or individuals known to support terrorism or to appear on any of the following lists:
    • U.S. Department of the Treasury, Office of Foreign Assets Control, Specially Designated Nationals List;
    • U.S. Department of Justice Terrorist Exclusion List;
    • United Nations List promulgated by the UN Security Council Resolutions 1267 and 1390;
    • The List promulgated by the European Union pursuant to EU Regulation 2580.
  • Organizations may not request funding to cover indirect costs above approximately 15% of the total grant amount. Altria Client Services (on behalf of PM USA) will work with grantees on a case by case basis to determine the appropriate allocation for indirect costs.

Ineligible Applicants:

  • Religious organizations, such as churches and synagogues, for religious activities.
  • Political or lobbying activities, political institutions or any candidate for office.
  • For-profit organizations or third parties seeking donations on behalf of not-for-profit organizations. The donation must be made directly to a not-for-profit rather than, for example, to a business partner making a request on behalf of a not-for-profit organization.
  • Grants to individuals or fraternal groups.
  • Not-for-profit entities in foreign countries that are not 501 (c) (3) equivalents.  Payments must be made to a United States-based 501(c)(3) organization [or qualify as a 501(c)(3) equivalency].
  • Youth or adult athletic teams or leagues.
  • Public or commercial radio and television programs.
  • Requests from past grantees that have failed to provide charitable contributions acknowledgment forms or other required documentation.

Attribution Guidelines:

Organizations receiving positive youth development or adolescent tobacco cessation grants must acknowledge such support from PM USA in communications that typically recognize donors (e.g., annual reports, newsletters and websites).  We ask however, that PM USA’s name not be used on materials that are intended to be distributed to or placed among children. We ask Grantees to gain permission prior to using Altria or its family of companies’ names or logos on any materials to be placed at events.
